Inner Feng Shui Tips: Life is Full of Gifts

November 19th, 2009 Posted in Feng Shui Tips, Love & Relationships

Everything you experience holds a gift for you. It’s easy to think of the good things as being a gift - but how about the things that don’t feel so good?

In challenging times, I’ve got into the habit of reminding myself to look for the gift, the lesson to be learned, something that will make my discomfort worthwhile.

The Knowledge & Self-Cultivation area of the Bagua is about learning - gaining knowledge and also learning the lessons you’re here to learn. This area is diagonally opposite the Love & Relationship area and is therefore intimately connected. Your own growth and learning and your sense of yourself directly impacts all your relationships.

After ourselves, the ones we’re in relationship with are our greatest teachers. And this is not always comfortable. Your relationships are designed to bring up all your stuff and show you where your edges are.

Whether a relationship continues or ends, there are many gifts to be found when you look. If you don’t make space to embrace these gifts, you’re destined to repeat them till you get the lessons.

Tips for maximizing the energy in the Knowledge & Self-Cultivation (K&SC) gua. See Bagua Map to find out where this area is in your home or office.

1. The Knowledge & Self-Cultivation area relates to learning new skills and gaining knowledge in your work. And it also relates to gaining knowledge about who you really are and learning the lessons you need to learn while here. It’s about the wisdom you gain as you go through life. Clutter in this area makes it difficult to connect with yourself and learn these lessons. Most likely you will need to attract bigger and bigger lessons (and even greater discomfort) till you get it.

2. This is a great place to meditate. Place books that inspire you, symbols of peace and solitude, pictures to anchor wisdom such as images of Gandhi, Buddha, your grandmother - and anything that reminds you of quiet places. Other enhancements for this area include healthy plants, water fountains to energize the knowledge of how to access wealth, fame, success and love, and lights or crystals to help you become ‘enlightened’.

3. Feel there’s a lesson you’re not getting? Look at what is happening in the K&SC area of your home or office. Recently, I knew there was a lesson I wasn’t getting about something and felt compelled to clean out the cupboards in my bathroom. There I was at midnight sitting on the floor in my K&SC area dumping everything out of the cupboards and discarding much of it. Next day, the lesson I needed to learn was very clear to me.

4. Create space for the new. Space as in decluttering and also space in your schedule and space in your head. Give yourself the gift of regular unstructured time so you can hear the whispers. Listen to your heart. It’s my observation that the more out of alignment you are with yourself, the more dramatic are those times of transition such as in mid life. You eventually receive a wake up call you can no longer ignore.

5. What happens when you hit the edge of your comfort zone - do you grab the chocolate, watch TV, make yourself very busy or all of these? It’s easy to keep yourself so busy you never have to let your heart be penetrated. Is there something you’re avoiding? What does your heart yearn for? What support do you need in order to take one small step toward what you really want?

6. Are you attracting evidence to prove your story true? Your story about people/men/politicians/the world/money/love etc. Is your story really true? Your stories determine the energy you’re putting out and the people and experiences you attract. Use Byron Katie’s Four Questions to gain clarity - the quickest way I know to get real about my story.

7. Whatever happens, assume there is a gift in it for you. Feeling un-nerved by the financial news these days? Where’s the gift for you? Where are you out of alignment around money? Where is your current reality not reflecting who you really are? Asking yourself these questions is the fastest way I know through to the other side of any situation. The other option is to blame and feel a victim, which has to be the greatest pain of all because there’s no way out.

The Knowledge & Self Cultivation area is my current favorite. It’s impact on your prosperity, well-being and relationships is huge. Being open to learning the lessons you attract makes the rest of your life flow with abundance.

At this time of gratitude, use these tips to empower you. And as always, I love hearing from you, so if you’d like to share any insights you have please share them below.

    Dear vicky,
Thanks for sending me such a beautiful journal.
I agreed with you , we must count blessings and enjoy the gifts of God , even though some times negative thoughts do come but we must find hidden gifts to come out.
    with regards,
    Najma.

I just got around to reading your latest newsletter and set about figuring out where my corner was for Knowledge and Self-Cultivation. AHa! It’s that corner where a few weeks ago I put a study lamp, plant, a few of my favorite books and my new study guides to learn Italian. I really love it when my intuition leads the way and I find out about it later. Thanks for your great work!
